About My Gizmo
My Gizmo was a product concept for a marketplace that combined social networking and gamification to promote the trading and reuse of old electronics, aiming to prevent their disposal.
Problem
In the United States alone, between 300 million and 400 million electronic devices are discarded annually, contributing to a global total of 62 million tonnes of e-waste. My Gizmo aimed to shift consumer behavior by encouraging the buying, selling, and trading of old devices rather than simply throwing them away.
My Role
User Interface and Visual Design
I received basic wireframes and a functional specification document, which I used to conceptualize the branding, design language, and workflow details through high-fidelity mockups.
Gamification
Engagement is encouraged through rewards, achievements, and a points leaderboard.
Social Networking
Following and messaging creates a sense of community amongst users.
Device & Accessory Management
Devices and accessories can be added with multiple images and native inputs to enter specs.
Device & User Search
Search can be performed on devices and on users and includes a variety of filter options.
Transactions
The buyer makes an offer, the seller accepts the offer, and then the buyer confirms the transfer.
